Flowmotion's live performances are renowned for stellar musicianship, contagious energy, packed dance floors and, courtesy of their two lead guitarists, smoking guitar riffs. Fronted by singer/ songwriter Josh Clauson (electric guitar, vocals), with RL Heyer (electric and slide guitars, vocals), Sabu Miyata (bass), Scott Goodwin (drums, vocals) and Bob Rees (percussion, vibraphone), Flowmotion's expertly controlled grooves harness the power of their funky, percussion-driven rock and roll.

The band also hosts and headlines the Summer Meltdown, a 3-day music festival held in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. 2007's 7th annual event drew over 3,000 people. The festival has hosted such bands as Zilla, Yard Dogs Road Show, Bill Frisell, alto sax extraordinaire Skerik, Garaj Mahal, Sky Cries Mary and Bassnectar. Seattle's own Blake Lewis has also graced the Meltdown's stage as both performer and festival emcee.
These songs are from the December 15th concert we played at the Oriental Theater in Denver, Colorado and feature special guests Keith Moseley on electric bass & Christian Teele on drums. The show was professionally recorded on multi-tracking equipment, and we then chose these 3 songs to have professionally mixed so they sound their very best:
Check out this event below, these guys are well worth it !!

Bonfire Music & Events presents Seattle, Washington's

FLOWMOTION

Friday December 28 & Saturday December 29
The Fairview Pub
898 West Broadway
Vancouver BC

Seattle-based groove virtuosos Flowmotion seamlessly blend funk, jazz, rock and blues with African and Latin rhythms to create a fresh, unique sound all their own. The group's live performances are renowned for their infectious, positive energy, stellar musicianship - and packed dance floors. Their recorded output garners heavy rotation with fans and casual listeners alike. Formed in 1999 on Washington State's San Juan Island, the group is a favourite of the improvisational rock scene, routinely drawing capacity college, festival and club audiences.

The group's sophomore studio effort, 2005's Is That Right, showcases the quintet's fusion of styles into a heady, funky brew while suggesting things to come -- and demonstrating no small crossover appeal -- with the radio-friendly single "Wild Eyes."
Flowmotion is fronted by singer-songwriter Josh Clauson, who penned much of Is That Right, also pulling lead vocal and guitar duties. Backing Clauson is Sabu Miyata, bass; Scott Goodwin, drums and backing vocals; Bob Rees, percussion and vibes; and RL Heyer, guitars and vocals. A self-proclaimed "World Funk Blender," the band is a hard-working outfit, spending nearly 200 days on the road, on average per year. This work ethic has paid dividends, garnering Flowmotion a growing corps of fans from Alaska to California and points east, many trailing the band from show to show.

Since its inception the group has also hosted the yearly Flowmotion Summer Meltdown Festival, a groove-packed showcase of likeminded bands, set against the pristine backdrop of Whitehorse Mountain in Darrington, Washington.

Fans and initiates alike have also scored their Flowmotion fix at other annual events such as the High Sierra Music Festival; the Oregon Country Fair and Bumbershoot, Seattle's venerable end-of-summer arts and music bash. On tour Flowmotion has made the marquee at such venues as Portland, Oregon's Crystal Ballroom; Seattle's Showbox Theater; and even California's infamous Folsom Prison. Other stops include Boulder Colorado's Fox Theater, the Bear's Tooth Theatre in Anchorage, Alaska and San Francisco's Boom Boom Room. Testimony to the group's crossover appeal, Flowmotion has appeared on stage with such luminaries as Widespread Panic, G-Love & Special Sauce, and the legendary Michael Franti and Spearhead, to name but a few.

Solid songwriting, formidable improvisational chops and irresistible rhythms...

GO WITH THE FLOW!

"The five-piece Flowmotion delivers enticing grooves and rhythms guaranteed to keep any audience in motion. The band's instrumental work sparkles with originality and flows with precision and purpose. It's been awhile since I've played a new disc so many times in such a short space of time."
~ Mick Skidmore, Relix Magazine

"The band unifies crowds with its vocal melodies, harmonies and stellar rhythm section. It moves seamlessly through original compositions with a liberating mixture of world-funk, jam-rock and sweet ballads that beg total abandonment of self."
~ John Larson, Tacoma Weekly

Sweet!

I finally found the tribe for all the great jammy folks in the Pacific NorthWest... and it only took 2 hours! Gimme some slack here folks... I'm new to tribe.net! :)

So... hey everyone! My name is Keither and I am one of the 4 producers of the Bonfire Music Festival, which is entering its 3rd year this August up in British Columbia. It's gonna be a great year, with our best lineup yet, 2 stages, workshops, children's stuff, secret parties and more.

Just a little background here to let you know where this all began...

Back in 2000 me & some friends were at SCI Summer Camp at Horning's Hideout. After the amazing Saturday night experience, 3 of us were sitting in a state of bliss on the hill as the crowd cleared the amphitheatre and headed back to the Shantytown. As the story goes (at least as far as I've been told by said friends!), the words that came out of my mouth were "Man... we gotta do something like this in BC!". So, a few of us began saving money, and 5 years later we launched the inaugural Bonfire Music Festival in Ruby Lake on BC's Sunshine Coast. It was a 3-day weekend of music, camping & art that was held in late June... and IT POURED ON US LIKE NEVER BEFORE!!!! That being said, it was an unqualified success (unqualified meaning a financial disaster!) and we were determined to double our efforts to make sure this little festival would survive. Ask anyone who was there that first year and they'll tell you... the CRAZY downpour just made Garaj Mahal's headlining set that much more interesting!

Last year, we moved the dates to the middle of August (smart, eh? tee-hee!) and doubled our numbers. We had to take a step backwards (in theory) and stick with Canadian bands to save some $$$ on the performer budget as we didn't have all the savings we'd hoped for after the first year, but all the musicians came with their 'A' game and really took the festival to a new high. We actually made a whopping $140 after all was said & done, so we knew we were on the right track! LOL!!

Now here we are in year 3... 6 weeks away in fact! I can't believe it's come so fast! We've moved to a new venue that's much more beautiful than our last (though the stage at Ruby Lake was incomparable)... with nice grass, lots of forest camping, a beautiful running creek, lots of cool little bridges everywhere (actually, if I HAD to compare it to anywhere, it would be a mini Horning's for sure) and we're raring to go with taking things up a notch.

We've booked RAQ, Garaj Mahal & Flowmotion as our headliners, we've added a 4th day, we've added a 2nd stage, more workshops, more children's programs, more art installations... more of everything.

We've also been talking lots with the Summer Meltdown guys (Flowmotion Josh & Preston) and are looking at future plans to continue running the Meltdown & Bonfire on consecutive weeks every August (not to mention the NorthWest String Summit the weekend after Bonfire!)... while we try to draw some of the finest jam & bluegrass acts on the planet to boogie through our neighbourhood for their late-Summer festival swing and double up in the PNW.

With Bonnaroo, 10KLF, Wakarusa & all the others in the East & Midwest dominating the early Summer, I think it's time we as the PNW community... both American & Canadian... pooled our efforts to show that our little corner of the continent up here is just as worthy (and capable) of supporting these great festivals just as good as anywhere else. It's a fact that we often get overlooked as a bit of an outpost... but that can change through a combined effort.

I've seen what we're capable of, and I have the utmost confidence that we will succeed and the PNW will become the NEW hotspot for the next generation of jam happy kind people!!

Geez... it IS the most beautiful part of the continent already, eh? ;) We just gotta band together and turn things up a notch.

So anyways... now you all know that I can get a little long-winded! Big surprise... I'M a CONCERT PROMOTER! :) Regardless, thank you all for reading this and I hope to see many of you wherever it may be destined to happen... at Bonfire, at the Meltdown, at Horning's, or just at a friendly neighbourhood show near you!!

Keep smiling everyone!
Keith in beautiful BC

:) :) :)

UPS website states that "global priority" will take between 6 to 10 days.

This means that your HH tickets could arrive in Canada as late as July 26th or 27th.

If you are having tickets shipped to Canada you now need to change your order to "will call"
(I'm told that you will still be receiving the special ticket at the gate).

Some time (?) after changing your order you will receive email confirmation of the changes. (I'm still waiting for this).
Check that email carefully, make sure all the details are correct and print a copy to take with you to the gate.

If you are using someone else's credit card to purchase your tickets, make sure that YOU will be able to pick up the tickets (see phone # above).

It's a hassle for sure, but there's plenty of time to sort this out. So stay calm, be polite to the call centre staff (who are powerless over the situation) and have your account # ready.

and don't forget to check, print, and carry your confirmation email when you go to the show.

All the best. Looking forward to dancing with ya'll at Berkeley and Horning's,

Brendan in Vancouver (BC)

Don't miss the full 2 set show from this great band from San Francisco. Hot Buttered Rum are a hot-picking "new-grass" band from San Fransisco and part of the High Sierra family. They are also really cool guys who do their tours in a veggie-oil powered bus.
This is their first time in Vancouver and you gotta know they can't be making a lot of $$$ on this one. ($12 to get in). It would be great to see some BIG VANCOUVER LOVE for these guys and to cement our reputation as the grooviest danceparty in the Pacific Nor'West.

HOT BUTTERED RUM

In the short time since Hot Buttered Rum debuted its music, dubbed as a “High Altitude Acoustic Experience”, the band has been praised by fans, peers and national media alike, recognizing Hot Buttered Rum for their ‘stunning instrumental and vocal virtuosity’. Hot Buttered Rum is attracting a truly multi-generational audience with its ability to create an undeniably hip and fresh sound that weaves together the grounded traditions of folk and bluegrass with the modern influences of rock-n-roll, reggae and acoustic singer/songwriters. Hot Buttered Rum’s musical evolution has not only defined their sound, with their extensive touring schedule the band has become established as one of the nation’s hottest young touring acts since setting off as a group of friends on a trail in the High Sierras in the early part of the decade to emerge as a band, appropriately named, Hot Buttered Rum.

The past couple years have been truly incredible for Hot Buttered Rum. They have performed at premier music festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass, Newport Folk and South By Southwest, and received an invitation to perform at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 5. The band’s talent has led them to the stage with artists Phil Lesh, Ben Harper, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Chris Thile, Bela Fleck, Peter Rowan, Billy Nershi and Mike Marshall to name a few.

Hi everybody, Bob Horning here.

Well the date has finally arrived for our land use hearing for permanent concert venue status. With talking to the county they are so far going to recommend approval to the hearings officer. The date for all of this is March 22nd at 10 AM. It will be held in the auditorium at the Washington County Building located at 155 N 1st Ave in Hillsboro Oregon. The reason I'm sending out this email is to see if we can get some people there as a show of support. Please remember that if you come that this is a hearing with a land use judge, so we all have to be respectful of him and the process. If we can have a good, respectful show of support it should help the judge show that this is a good thing for the community. For those who would like to comment there will be a chance for public comment, or just submit written testimony, again if you wish. A nice show of support is the main thing. Once the hearing is over they will make their final decision a few weeks afterwards. I appreciate all the support we've received here and hopeful if this all goes well we'll be up and running back to normal again very soon.

Thanks!

I got this email from the Tractor. Please read it's VERY important.

Howdy folks. I know you all signed up for the "Tractor Spam" to get calendar updates, and we try not to impose too much on your inbox. But..... it seems as though nefarious deeds are afoot. If you enjoy the Tractor, the Sunset or Conor Byrne. If you enjoy all the other clubs in town. If you think there is nothing better then seeing your favorite band live, or better yet seeing some band you never heard of and loving them. If live music is important to you, then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read on and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take a minute and write to your city counsel. The worse thing you could do is nothing....

Seattle's nightclubs and music venues are in jeopardy, and you need to act if you want to save live music in Seattle .

Friends, patrons and fans of live music and nightlife in general need to write your city council members to oppose the Nightlife Premises License Ordinance, which if passed, will help to kill nightlife and live music in Seattle as we know it. You need to act now as the ordinance is steadily working its way to a vote on the council floor.

In its essence, the proposed law denies nightclub owners the certainty of holding licenses for any period of time. It imposes unreasonable and unenforceable rules, under which rules licenses can be summarily revoked by the CITY for the most minor infractions. And regardless if the club owners follow the rules, the city can shutdown an established club if a new wealthy/powerful condo owner moves in the neighborhood and deems the existing club unfit for a neighborhood and a nuisance. This scenario proves a concern as new condos are being raised everyday in Seattle. You can read the Stranger's take on it here http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=44395. The people really pushing for this new law are the Seattle Police, who want more power over what you see and where you hang out.

Neighborhood groups lead by The Mayor's lobbyist have mobilized an email campaign to help pass this ordinance through immediately . We need YOU to stop this proposed law and groups that want to take away your right to see live music by emailing the council today. EVERY email counts, as few as 20 emails to the Council have effected legislation.

Write your council members below , let them know you would support sane legislation that deals with nightlife issues but that the Mayor's Nightlife Premises License Ordinance is part of a botched process that ignored input from neighborhood groups and nightclub owners, and didn't even allow for input from the music business and music fans. We need a new process, a real process, that comes up with sane, workable solutions.

Hey y'all-

So, I'm pretty stoked about tonight's show at the Fex in Portland. If any of you didn't know, there is a blanket drive for homeless youth (info below).

Garaj Mahal and Outside In
www.outsidein.org are putting on a blanket drive
to help homeless youth. It is our pleasure to support the community and we
are encouraging everyone to please bring a donation to the show. Anything
is appreciated. Here is a little info about the project from Heidi at
Outsidein...

The Road Warrior Project is a 4 times a week late night drop in for homeless
youth in Portland who don't regularly access the shelters and other social
services in town, and the project is trying to identify barriers these youth
have to receiving services, in order to reduce or eliminate them to get them
into social services. We are trying to engage the youth by offering a safe
space where we have food, movies, showers, laundry, hygiene supplies, a
mental health worker, a late night medical clinic, and other weekly
activities. We've been seeing so many youth begin to engage with us, and
been there for them to support them while they are making positive changes
in their lives. Basically, we work and care about the ones no one else
does, the youth who have fallen between the cracks. In addition to
blankets, socks are always appreciated (even used ones), food, warm clothes,
anything, really, is helpful.

Oct 31 Portland - http://www.jambase.com/search.asp?eventID=468768

Album review:

John Popper of Blues Traveler (vocals, harmonica)
DJ Logic (turntables)
Tad Kinchla of Blues Traveler (bass)
Marcus Bleecker of Mosaic (drums)

The pocket. It's musical slang for the deep-groove sweet spot that any band interested in funk and rhythm is hoping to reach, a place where the perfect collision and synthesis of sounds can give a musician the most intoxicating of natural highs. Deep within the womb of the pocket-that's where the music of the John Popper Project has nestled itself. In just two years since the group's namesake and turntable wiz DJ Logic pacted with Blues Traveler bassist Tad Kinchla and Mosaic drummer Marcus Bleeker for a round of on-the-side musical exploration, the band has already reached groove nirvana, with the 13 tracks composing its eponymous debut. If the combination of Traveler frontman Popper's big-lunged vocals and rapid-fire harmonica and Logic's skiddy, beat-and-scratch style seemed an odd fit initially, with Kinchla and Bleeker they've emerged as expert pocket-detectors, able to find and ride a groove with ease. Says a proud Popper, "I'm happy to say, we're really good at it."

But while subterranean grooves form the core of The John Popper Project, the disc is about so much more. Landing the band in the studio for the first time, the disc's tracks were created as spontaneously as the group itself, with all four band members contributing equally to the songwriting process. Says Logic, "We were all listening to each others' iTunes, talking about music and just getting the idea and feel of each other. And when you're creating, all those ideas and stuff just comes into one, and you can hear that in the music."

Songs like the Shaft-worthy leadoff track "Lapdance"-an insanely funky blend of seventies sounds anchored by a swirling bassline-were created on the spot. Says Bleeker, "It was great, you have the drums on the bottom, and Tad plays six-string bass, so he's got a lot of space. Then you have John on top and Logic all over the place adding different textures and colors." Adds Popper: "With that song, and that kind of song, it's kind of like you don't care why it's good, you don't care what you're doing... you just want to keep doing it."

Appropriately, "All Good Children" both begins with the sound of playing children and finds Popper's harp and wistful lyrics frolicking over Bleeker and Kinchla's groove. "Everything," meanwhile, is the sound of the band burning down the musical highway, its bumpin'-bassline and roaring harmonica-spiced breaks the equivalent of musical donuts. Says Kinchla, "It's got this driving rhythm, and then John's very notable, pop voice comes in. It's a great combination."

On tracks like "Pack Your Love," meanwhile, the young group conjures some sort of intersection people Eastern atmospherics and DJ Rob Base. "Trigger" could be the love child of Roni Size and Charlie Daniels. Without a lead guitarist, the band plays a game of round robin on The John Popper Project, filling the spaces in songs through a game of hot potato: Popper will inject one track with squalls of harp, before or while Logic lays down stop-and-go scratch grooves and box-rocking beats, Kinchla spins a funky bassline and Bleeker throttles it down the track. The seeds for The John Popper Project were planted in 2003, when Popper-during a break from Blues Traveler-booked a solo gig in San Francisco with onetime RatDog member/bass virtuoso Rob Wasserman. At that gig, Logic (who, ironically, happened to be in town performing with RatDog main man/Grateful Dead guitarist-vocalist Bob Weir) sat in for the entire, two-set evening. A year later, Popper and Logic decided to do a little more musical exploring.

Hitting the stage with Kinchla and Bleeker for a few experiments in their homebase of New York City, the group's confidence was bolstered by enthusiastic fans-excitement shared by critics once the band hit the road: "The blazing talents of DJ Logic partnered with John Popper's soulful and unique harp style makes the John Popper Project refreshingly melodic, surprisingly playful and impressively tight," wrote The Memphis Flyer. "Logic and Popper are artistically flexible and stylistically open-minded. Combined, the John Popper Project is a skillful interpolation of instrumental passages," raved MTV.com.

"I like the energy-their energy-and the spontaneity of it," producer Craig Street (Norah Jones, Chris Whitley, Derek Trucks) says of The John Popper Project. "It was kind of wide open, which made it incredibly interesting."

Says Popper, "Whether you want to fuck to it, eat to it, drink to it or smoke to it, I think it meets all that criteria. It's good, cool, just fun music."
